Gas pipework work covers new supply runs for a cooker, hob, boiler or fire, extending or moving an existing supply, upgrading undersized pipe so a new combi gets the gas it needs, tracing and repairing leaks, and reconnecting a supply the emergency service has capped. All of it must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
For a leak, we start with a tightness test on the whole installation, trace the escape with gas detection equipment, repair or renew the faulty section, then re-test and purge before putting the appliances back on. For new runs we plan the route, size the pipe for the appliances on it, install it in copper, test it and record the results.
We have installed and repaired gas pipework in Essex homes for over 40 years and are Gas Safe registered (925538). Call-out starts from £90 for planned work and from £120 for emergencies, and you get a written record of every test.

Questions about gas pipework and gas leaks
How much does gas pipework cost?
Call-out for planned work starts from £90 and emergency call-out from £120. New runs and repairs are priced on the length and route of the pipe, so we quote after seeing the job, and before starting. A gas cooker or hob connection on an existing supply is £120.
How quickly can you come out for a gas leak?
Call 0800 111 999 first so the supply is made safe, then call us on 01268 855605. The emergency line runs 24 hours a day and the engineer will give you an arrival time based on where you are in Essex. For planned pipework, we book a date that suits you.
How do I know if I have a gas leak?
The usual sign is the smell, which the gas network adds so that leaks are noticed. A meter that keeps turning with every appliance off, or dead grass along the route of a buried pipe, can also point to a leak. If in doubt, turn off at the meter and call 0800 111 999.
My gas has been capped. Can you reconnect it?
Yes. The emergency service caps a supply to make it safe and leaves a notice explaining why. We find and repair the fault, test the whole installation and reconnect it. Any appliance that caused the problem is repaired or replaced at the same time.
Why does a new combi boiler need bigger gas pipes?
A modern combi draws more gas when it is heating water than an old boiler did, and a long run of 15mm pipe cannot supply it without the pressure dropping. The manufacturer's commissioning check will fail on low working pressure. We measure the run during the boiler survey and upgrade to 22mm where needed.
Can you move my gas supply for a new kitchen?
Yes. We extend or reroute the supply to where the new cooker or hob is going, size it for the appliance and test it before the kitchen fitter closes up. Tell us the kitchen plan early so the pipe run can go in before the units.
