Our emergency line on 01268 855605 is open 24 hours a day, every day, for plumbing, boiler and gas emergencies across Essex. It is answered by the firm, not a call centre, and the engineer who speaks to you is the one who decides how quickly to get to you.
What counts as an emergency
- A smell of gas or a suspected gas leak (see below, call 0800 111 999 first)
- A burst pipe or a leak you cannot stop
- Water coming through a ceiling or near electrics
- No heating in cold weather, especially where someone elderly, unwell or very young lives in the house
- No hot water where there is no other way to heat it
- A boiler leaking water or locked out with a smell of burning
- A blocked or overflowing toilet in a home with one bathroom
- No water at all
If you are not sure whether it can wait, call and describe it. We will tell you honestly whether it needs someone tonight or can be booked for the morning at the standard call-out rate.
If you smell gas
- Turn the gas off at the meter. The lever is usually next to the meter; turn it a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe.
- Open windows and doors to let the gas out.
- Do not switch anything electrical on or off, including lights, and do not use a naked flame or smoke.
- Call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999. It is free, open 24 hours a day, and they will send someone to make the supply safe.
- Then call us on 01268 855605. The emergency service makes the supply safe but does not repair the fault. Our Gas Safe registered engineer finds the leak, repairs it, tests the whole installation and reconnects you.
What happens when you call
- You speak to an engineer, who asks what is happening and where you are.
- They tell you what to do straight away, for example where to find the stopcock and how to turn it off, or how to reset a locked-out boiler.
- They give you an honest arrival time based on where you are in Essex and where the engineer is.
- On arrival the engineer makes the situation safe, finds the cause and tells you the price of the repair before starting.
- Where the part is on the van the repair is done there and then. If a part has to be ordered, the engineer makes the system safe and usable where possible and returns to finish the job.
Emergency prices
- Emergency gas engineer call-out from £120
- Emergency plumbing call-out from £90
- The repair itself is priced once the fault is found and agreed with you before any work starts
We are Gas Safe registered (925538), family run and based in Bowers Gifford, Basildon, covering the whole of Essex. If you need us now, call 01268 855605.
