The cartridge inside a mixer or thermostatic shower controls the flow and the temperature. In Essex, hard water scales them up, so showers start to drip, turn stiff, run only hot or only cold, or swing in temperature. Replacing the cartridge restores the shower without replacing the valve.
What we do
- Identify the shower make and model and source the correct cartridge
- Isolate the water, strip the valve and remove the old cartridge
- Descale the valve body and fit the new cartridge with new seals
- Reassemble, test the temperature and check for leaks
Cost
From £90 labour plus the cartridge, which varies by make. If the valve body itself is damaged we will tell you before doing anything, and quote for a replacement valve if that is the better option.
Why it keeps happening
Water in most of Essex is 260 to 390 ppm, which is hard to very hard. Limescale builds up inside cartridges and on shower heads. A scale reducer on the cold feed, or a water softener, extends the life of every tap and shower in the house. Ask us about water softeners and limescale protection.
